Mod of the Month – August 2024
She’s a German native and resident of South Africa. She’s a customer support star and trust and safety expert. And she’s a black belt in Karate.
Meet Carola T. — August’s Mod of the Month!
These days you’ll find Carola splitting time between three projects (two games and an app, performing two services (support and moderation), and doing it in two languages (English and German). And while she excels across the board, if you ask her, she’ll tell you her strengths lie in social media, moderation, and community management with a particular focus on trust and safety. “Of course, data security, the protection of personal data, and GDPR laws are paramount in all three projects. This makes the work incredibly interesting and challenging.”
Before joining the Mods, Carola exercised her community skills by building a Facebook community page with more than 18,000 members. She’s overseen technical medical translations for accuracy. She’s even served as a German translator in Africa, which involved lots of travel and adventure, such as climbing the highest dune in Nambia and visiting Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe.
Why has ModSquad managed to keep this incredible talent? “Before joining ModSquad, I worked on various short-term projects, but once my kids left home, those projects no longer fit my life. I was looking for something that matched my interests, leveraged my strengths, and offered me the flexibility to work from home or elsewhere. ModSquad’s commitment to ethics, quality, and diverse projects provided everything I was looking for in this new stage of my life.”
Her colleagues are sure grateful she’s on the team.
Carola has been on our project for a few months, and it's very complex. Carola took it all in stride, caught up in record time (we haven't had somebody learn this quickly in years!). She is proactive and has amazing productivity and QA. We are so very impressed with the level of professionalism and commitment she gives to her work. She truly embodies the MSQ spirit and what a Mod should be!
She is truly doing exceptional work! Carola is so passionate, willing to learn, extremely cooperative and helpful, and consistently exceeds expectations, setting a high bar for excellence. No matter the challenge she faces, her positive attitude and willingness to work together motivate all of us. She is making tremendous progress, and we're so lucky to have her on the project and in the MSQ!
Carola is an invaluable member in two projects of mine (a customer support one and a moderation one), and she's been exceptional in both. She's very quick and efficient in learning new things and applying what she has learned: after just a few weeks on the project, I could clearly see that she had already caught up with the best veteran mods on the team! It's undeniable that she always does her best and puts all her professionalism and passion to the task at hand. She's honestly a great help (her shift and trends reports are impeccable and make my job waaaay easier) and just a wonderful, positive, interesting person overall.
Her project is very complex and Carola deserves high praise for all that she has done there, and so quickly!
Off the clock, Carola is focused on family. “Nothing works without family. My eldest son is married, and his wife is from Zimbabwe. My daughter lives in Germany and is also married. My second son lives in Australia with his Indian partner. We have weekly family calls where everybody joins in and tells their news from the week.”
Beyond family time, Carola campaigns for women’s rights, especially housewives. She achieved her second black belt in Karate and received her national colors in 2018. When time allows, she loves to travel through Africa to enjoy the magnificent wildlife and landscape.
