GDC Is Back – And ModSquad’s In the House

Rich Weil

ModSquad’s Rich Weil is no stranger to the video game conference circuit. With the return to live events, we asked Rich to share his thoughts on ModSquad’s storied relationship with the gaming industry.

Game conferences, like those supporting any other industry, have had a tumultuous time over the last couple of years. We’ve certainly seen a lot of ingenious innovations in the virtual conferences we’ve attended. However, I’ve always thought that the game industry, maybe more than any other, has always benefitted from coming together in person to share ideas, network, and meet new people — all of the wonderful things that happen at a conference.

That’s why I’m so excited that the grandfather of all gaming conferences, GDC (Game Developers Conference), will once again be an in person affair, back at San Francisco’s Moscone Center from March 21 through March 25. I’m even more thrilled that ModSquad will be attending, as we’ve always done in the past.

GDC’s live return comes not a moment too soon, as it’s a transformative time for the game industry. The past two years have been a boon for gaming, with people staying home and looking for entertainment. Throughout our history, ModSquad has always strived to stay ahead of the times. We got our start in the Metaverse, years before people were reading about that space on the news. (Don’t forget that ModSquad was started as Metaverse Mod Squad 15 years ago! But we’re fine with folks following in our footsteps. Heck, we’re used to it.) In 2007, we pioneered the remote model, assembling an infrastructure that seemed pretty insightful come early 2020.

And we led the industry in identifying and assembling a network of experienced dynamos who are more than just pros at delivering great CX using a wide variety of tools and platforms. Our Mods are more — they’re enthusiasts who live and breathe the products and brands they support. This is why our many game industry clients look to us to provide authentic player facing services such as moderation, customer support, social media, and community management. We know that the folks working on your game know your game.

If you’d like to get together at GDC for a coffee or other beverage of choice, feel free to drop me a line. I’d be happy to meet up! Also, in the best traditions of GDC, ModSquad will be hosting an informal mixer the evening of Wednesday, March 23 during the show. I look forward to connecting with many friends and colleagues throughout the event.

See you there!
