Our Resolutions for 2020

Just a few days ago marked the end of 2019 and the start of a new year, a new decade, and a fresh start for many. As the year gets underway, so too do the New Year’s resolutions of millions of people determined to make positive changes in their lives. With the New Year comes new possibilities.

Here at ModSquad, many of us have big plans for 2020, and we invited folks to share their resolutions with us. See if any of these wishes ring true for you as well, and be sure to leave a comment at the end of the article.

“In 2020, I want to spend more time creating. Creating art, creating worlds, creating fun, and continuing to create stuff to be proud of. The real success is the journey; the destination is a chapter closed.”
— Izzy N.

“My New Year’s resolution is to actually complete more games. I tend to start them and then get distracted by others, so my goal is to complete games that I start.”
— Jessica S.

“I have two resolutions. First of all, I definitely want to get out of the house more, so I will be walking from the Shire to Mordor. I downloaded that app that tracks the distance when you go on walks and shows your progress as related to the quest in The Lord of the Rings. Secondly, I would very much like to get regularly involved with a charity such as Meals on Wheels. It’s easy to get so busy in one’s own life that you have a hard time making time for others, but I’m definitely giving it a shot in 2020!”
— Rich W.

“My resolutions this year are to read more (like really read, not just Reddit comments, actual books) and to teach my dog Nova [at right] to stay. We have ‘sit’ down, but ‘stay’ has been a real challenge.”
— Michelle R.

“My resolutions for 2020 are to travel to Switzerland to explore my ancestry; practice roller skating regularly for fitness and fun; cook more meals at home instead of dining out to encourage healthy eating habits; and allocate time for growing my professional skill set (more edX courses, perhaps).”
— Sarah C.

“My resolution for 2020 is to learn crochet and amigurumi (small stuffed crochet figures). I inherited six storage bins full of yarn and crochet supplies this year. I know how to knit squares and rectangles, and that’s about it so far. I’d especially like to learn amigurumi so I can make some nerdy fandom stuff. Baby Yoda plush, anyone?”
— Geneva H.

“For the past 10 years, my resolution has always been to lose weight and become more active. This year, I decided to start about a month early and just continue doing it through the New Year! So far, I’ve already lost about 30 lbs. and I’m excited to continue. In addition to that, I traveled for the first time last year and would love to do more of that in 2020.”
— Rebekah G.

“I’ve resolved to read 24 books. A few years ago, I realized I wasn’t really spending much time doing one of my very favorite things — reading. In 2018 I decided that I’d read 12 books. I think I read about 15. Last year, I went for 20 and read 24. So in 2020, I’m shooting for two per month, or 24 books!
— Susie S.

“My resolution this year is to travel/explore more! Not just big, faraway vacations, but doing more exploring and adventuring in my own city as well. I often find myself in the mindset of ‘I can do it tomorrow’ when it comes to things to do here in Austin, and as a result there were some pretty cool events and pop-up happenings that I missed out on. I don’t want to let that happen this year, so my goal is to find at least one new, fun thing to do in the city each month in 2020.”
— Danielle D.

“My resolution this year is to start writing again. Last year, I had resolved to write at least 1,000 words a day, five days a week, and setting that goal helped me really flesh out my ideas and draft a story I was passionate about. Unfortunately, that draft was lost and I became discouraged. This year, I want to jump back in with new ideas and try to actually finish writing a book.”
— Rochelle H.

“My New Year’s resolution is all about less stuff and more experiences in 2020! I am embracing the KonMari method to find joy in less possessions. I’m looking forward to downsizing with a smile! With that in mind, all of our Christmas gifts were for getting out on the trails, music events, and family experiences around our area.”
— Olivia L.

“This year, my resolution is to buy a home. New budgets, smarter spending, and a lot of time on Zillow ahead.”
— Josh S.

The start of 2020 means a lot of different things for those in our squad. Whatever your plans for the new year might be, we hope that this year brings all good things into your life. Happy New Year!
