Mod of the Month — April 2021

ModSquad

ModSquad stands out because of our amazing Mods. That’s why we’re so passionate about introducing them to the world and celebrating their accomplishments here on the Mod Blog. This month, another one of our incredible Mods proves himself to be an invaluable part of any project he joins. We’d like you to meet the charming David M.

As he notes in our “This or That” word game below, David is someone who values the journey over the destination. In that spirit, we wanted to know about his voyage and what brought him to be a part of ModSquad. Not to give spoilers, but it’s an interesting tale!

David didn’t set out to be a kick-butt Mod capable of delivering smiles around the world. Instead, his path began working as a data analyst, which he didn’t find fulfilling. Things changed when he chose to pursue volunteer work in Taiwan, helping to teach English and Spanish as a second language, despite not knowing Mandarin Chinese himself. “It was a challenge,” he recalls, “but definitely one of the best experiences of my life.”

The next leg of David’s journey led him to work with a tourism company in a marketing role, increasing engagement on their social media accounts. “I had to try the tours before selling them,” he explains. “I got the chance to do some fun activities, like paragliding over the mountains in Colombia and doing a helicopter ride.”

Yet throughout it all, David continued to develop an ever-greater appreciation for the importance of connecting with people and being part of a community. David decided he wanted to take his expertise and work directly with people, which is when he discovered an opportunity at ModSquad to help on a gaming project. This allowed him to interact with enthusiasts in a field that he loved. “It was perfect!” he says.

For more than a year now, David has been working on a social media project, striving to provide inspiration to customers and help them with their concerns. He notes, “I love being able to engage with customers on social media. It tests my creativity and ability to think outside the box.”

As much as he ably assists customers, David is just as willing to help his coworkers. Those he works with describe him as someone always ready to brainstorm engagement ideas or help clarify processes. It’s this camaraderie that appeals to him as well. “Even though the work is done remotely, there’s an incredible feeling of community in the company. That makes every day fun.”

Speaking of community, David’s also psyched about a brand new assignment, on which he’ll be handling community duties for an upcoming streaming series. “I’ll be learning what the Spanish-speaking fans are saying online about the series and providing insights back to the client,” he explains. “It’s very exciting!”

But life isn’t all work and no play for David! When not creating connections online, he enjoys close friendships in real life. As he studies for his Master’s degree in Tourism, he lives with classmates in Slovenia and enjoys eating out, hiking, and photography. A man with a passion for learning, David loves to pick up new languages. In addition to being fluent in both English and Spanish, he’s also spent time learning Danish, Japanese, Indonesian, and German.

In any language, people have a lot to say about David’s awesomeness. Here are a few of his coworkers, who offer words of praise.

“David is so friendly and talented. In addition to being a joy to work with, he also produces impeccable work. Last month, he went above and beyond for our client, managing four special activities in his market and engaging in and moderating a massive event on Facebook Live. David delivers excellent quality on the project, to the delight of our client and market partners. He’s also super thoughtful about raising important insights and adapting his tone of voice. Huge cheers for David!”
— Jenny Y., Community Strategist, Project Manager

“David’s professional attitude, paired with his wonderful communication skills, creativity, and ability to tackle requests with a very calm and open mind, make him one of the best I’ve ever worked with. He’s very friendly, relaxed, and appreciative of others and the work he does.”
— Laura M., Management Consultant, Assistant Project Manager

“David ticks all the right boxes when it comes to being a superstar Mod. He’s professional, creative, flexible, quality-driven, and a pleasure to work with — and his coworkers can attest to this. David handles everything naturally and with care. We’re very lucky to have David not only on our project, but here at ModSquad.”
