3 Gifts for you today!

Whoa, whoa, whoa… 3 gifts?  Well, yes, but in the spirit of “sharing” more than giving.  Bear with me.

It’s February and still chilly and blustery.  The cold season has been brutal. Crime in the news seems to be a bit more extreme.  Valentine chocolates are getting stale, and flowers wilting.  And even the post-Oscar haze seems a bit grumpier than usual.

What better time to take a moment and focus on 3 really great things floating around the web-o-sphere?  So, without further adieu, let me share with you 3 gifts for this Wednesday!  What you do with these gifts is up to you, but I hope you’re able to share (if you haven’t already).

Digital Respect

Most mornings, if I have the opportunity, I will start my day early, reading Reddit.com and drinking my latte.  I do not know how much time you have spent on the site, but Reddit is such a funny, sometimes fickle community.  Strangely enough, I can judge the way my day is going to go by the percentage of sincere vs snarky posts in the top 20 (like predicting rain with creaky joints).

This was the first post I opened today, and it brought a smile to my face (I hope it does the same for you):

I am a ranger in Yosemite National Park and receive many letters from visitors. This is my favorite. submitted 9 hours ago by bestmattever

Sometimes it’s easy to fall into the dog eat dog world of needing & taking (or, as I like to refer to it, the “pirate perspective” – take what you want & leave the rest behind).  It’s nice to be reminded of innocence and passion and the art of “doing the right thing” – no matter how small, or unnecessary it might seem.  Respect.

Digital Inspiration

A video popped up in my Facebook feed yesterday, courtesy of some aunts who truly love to share tear-jerker content (particularly about dogs).  You may have already seen this news report, but if you haven’t, please bask in the sheer awesomeness of this video, and enjoy the brief moment of knowing that – DESPITE all the news of selfishness and horror we’re fed by news and media – there are really, truly amazing people in this world, who do random acts of kindness – both planned and unplanned.

Please watch this video!

 Digital Knowledge

I stumbled across this video today for Code.org.  Please take a look.

Sometimes I look back to that 45 minute “keyboard” class in 5th grade, when I learned how to type, and I wonder… how the heck did I learn, and so fast? Inconceivable!

The things kids can do these days?  Children interact with computers and smart phones, keyboards and tech, etc, at such a young age.  One could argue that children are growing up and developing at the whim of the new frontier digitally forming around them.

I love what Code.org is doing!  Share it with your friends, kids, coworkers.  The gift of knowledge is so important, particularly for future generations.

If you have anything you’d like to share, please do not hesitate in doing so – that’s what the comment section is for!  Have a fantastic remainder to your week, and may spring come soon, the sun be bright, and incredible possibility forever on your horizon!
